On 23 December 1994, the United Nations General Assembly decided, in its resolution 49/214, that the International Day of the World’s Indigenous People shall be observed on 9 August every year. The date marks the day of the first meeting, in 1982, of the UN Working Group on Indigenous Populations. On this day, people from around the world are encouraged to spread the UN’s message on the protection and promotion of the rights of indigenous peoples.

Please note that there is a two-step process for the registration:
Once you fill out the online registration, you will get a notification that your registration was received.
Note: This email is not your ticket and does not provide entrance to the UN Headquarters!
Once your registration is approved, you will receive an email to complete your registration. Only after doing so you will receive with your ticket!
On 9 August, come with this ticket and a government-issued ID to receive your Special Event Ticket (SET).
The SPFII team will be handing out SETs to registrants from 8.30–11.00 am and from 1.30–3 pm in front of the UN Visitors entrance (46th and 1st Ave).
Only with that Special Event Ticket (SET), you will be allowed to enter the UN and attend the event.
Special Event Tickets (SETs) are only allocated to individuals who registered online and whose registration was successfully processed. Tickets are non-transferable.
Please understand that due to limited capacity in the conference room not all registrants will receive a ticket.
If you did not receive an approval email with your ticket, you would not be allowed entrance to the UN and the event. Only with your ticket (which includes a QR code), you will receive a SET with which you may enter the UN.
Minors (age 18 and below) must register and be accompanied by an adult at all times. Accompanying adults must also register to attend the event.
All attendees will be required to go through an airport-like security screening to access the United Nations Headquarters.
The United Nations cannot assist with travel, visa, or invitation letters for this event. Emails or correspondence requesting assistance in this regard will not be replied.
